International Society for the Advancement of Emergy Research

The Emergy Society
Welcome to the Emergy Society Web Site!

We are an international society dedicated to the
advancement of research on emergy and transformity
as a means to accomplish better decision-making in a
complex world. This work is accomplished within the
framework of Energy Systems Theory (Odum 1994).

Our goal is to support research and communication
that will increase the quantity and improve the quality of
emergy research throughout the world.

You can explore our website to learn more about
emergy, H.T. Odum, and our organization.

A Prosperous Way Down Website and Blog

“A Prosperous Way Down” is a proposition that we can change our ways enough to gradually reduce our energy
use to fit the reduction of our resources.

The website,, created by Mary Odum Logan concentrates on this proposition. It supports
lively discussions on what we can do to fit the patterns of today and tomorrow.

The book ,
A Prosperous Way Down, by Howard T. Odum and Elisabeth C. Odum, was published in 2001 by
University Press of Colorado, 5589 Arapahoe Ave. Suite 206C, Boulder, Col. 80303.

A paper by Betty Odum summaries much of the book. The paper will be presented at a workshop at the Friends
General Conference, held at the University of Rhode Island July 1 - 7,  2012. You can download the paper by
following this link to
Betty's paper.

Emergy Accounting, Venice, Italy, 11-15 May 2015. The directirs of the School of Emergy Accounting are

This website,, is the old website of the International Society for the Advancement of Emergy Research,
a.k.a., the
Emergy Society. All of the material on this site has been reproduced on our new web site at www.
along with some new material. The new site is now our primary site. This site will be mai
ntained as time permits and it may be used to allow broader participation in the 10th Annual Meeting of ISAER to be
online, May 1 to 5, 2017, in the Members' Areas of the ISAER old and new websites. The old website will serve as
a back-up, because we have never used the new website to hold an online meeting and only 42% of current members
(116/277) have registered on the new website and of these only 42 have joined the group, "All Members" to receive
messages about the annual meeting and election. The group was set-up by Dan Campbell, thus you must accept his
friend request to join. A request has been sent to all 116 members, who have joined the Members' Area of our new
website. If you have not received such message, please send a friend request to him on the site and that should allow
you to be connected to the group.

Four new members of the Executive Council of ISAER will be elected at this meeting with voting starting on May 1 and
continuing until May 3 with the results announced on May 4, 2017. The resumes of the candidates are posted at
and in the Member's Area of this website. If you have not joined the new
website and cannot find your user name send a request to and it will be sent to you. If you know
your user name, but have forgotten your password, you can reset it yourself to enter the sit
